Your touchscreen isn’t responding to your touches

You might be facing the problem of your iPhone’s touchscreen not responding to your touches. In that case, what do you need to do to try resolving the issue? You need to perform force restart on your iPhone and that might help you in resolving the issue. The method to perform a force restart varies over different iPhone versions.

  • If you are using an iPhone 8, iPhone 8 Plus or iPhone X, you have to press the Volume Up button and release it quickly. After doing this, you need to press and release the Volume Down button and quickly release this button as well. Now, to complete the force restart process, you need to keep pressing and holding the Side button until an Apple logo appears on the screen.

Here are the steps that you might want to perform to resolve this issue.

Before getting started, I want to know something from you. Are you using the latest version of iTunes? If you aren’t, first you need to update it to the latest version. Now that you have the latest version of iTunes in your iPhone, you can follow the instructions below.

You shouldn’t be doing anything until iTunes finishes downloading the software for your iPhone. If it takes a long time (usually over 15 minutes) and then your iPhone gets away from the “Connect to iTunes” text on the screen, you might want to leave it as it is until the downloading process is finished. Then, you shall repeat the Step 3 mentioned above (force restart your iPhone until the “Connect to iTunes” text appears over the screen).

Step 6:

Here are two different cases on why you could be facing the issue and the methods to resolve the issue for both cases.

Case 1 | Problem in the Application:

If there were any mistakes during the development of a certain application that tells your iPhone how it needs to perform, then your iPhone’s touchscreen may stop responding to your touches. If this is the case, the only thing you can do is to wait for the issue to fix in the next version of the application or uninstall the application and look for other alternatives. You can contact the developer of the application directly from your device to let them know about the issue. They may even guide you in resolving the issue. They might also be working to fix the problem for the next update. Here’s how you can contact the developer through your iPhone!

Step 1:

First, you need to open the App Store on your iPhone.

Step 2:

Now, you need to click on the Search icon at the bottom of the App Store.

Step 3:

When you see a search box, you should type the name of the application and search for it.

Step 4:

Once the icon of the application appears, you need to click on it to find full information about the application.

Step 5:

What you have to do here is to scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on “Developer Website“. Doing this will load the website of the application’s developer.

Step 6:

Now, you should see if there is any contact form on the website. If you don’t find any contact form, you might find any email address of the developer. You shall contact the developer through email or through the contact form by mentioning full details about your issue and the fault in the application. Once the developers go through your message, they will let you know any methods that might work for you or they will try fixing the issue for the next version of the application.

Case 2 | Problem during the Installation:

This can also happen when any sorts of problems persist during the installation or use of a certain app. If you think you might have made some mistakes during the installation or while using a certain application, you might want to uninstall it and install it again to resolve the issue. If you aren’t sure about how you can uninstall an application on your iPhone, you can follow the instructions below.

Step 1:

First, you need to look for the application in the home screen of your iPhone.

Step 2:

Now, you need to keep pressing and holding your finger on the icon of the application. You shouldn’t stop holding on it until every icon on the screen start shaking as well as an “X” sign appears just above the icon in the upper-left corner.

The part under the layer of your iPhone’s touchscreen can be damaged while your iPhone is dropped. Inside the touchscreen of your iPhone, there’s a digitizer. The digitizer performs all the actions for the sensation of your touch that lets you do different activities on your iPhone just with your finger. The digitizer is connected to the processing unit of your iPhone which performs all the functioning of your iPhone. So, if your iPhone is dropped, the connection between the touchscreen, the digitizer and the processing unit of your device can be affected. This is the reason why your touches on the touchscreen aren’t performing any actions in your iPhone.

Temporary Solution

If you have just dropped your iPhone, the layers under the touchscreen of your iPhone might have been affected. One temporary fix for this issue is to press the part of your iPhone’s touchscreen where the inner layers including the digitizer are connected with the processing unit. However, you shouldn’t press with maximum force. If you do so, the whole screen of your iPhone might be cracked. Hence, you need to press in a proper way to fix the connecting cables of the digitizer and the processing unit.

This is just a temporary fix for your issue and the connection can be loose again at any time.

However, if your display is shattered or cracked, the temporary solution also mightn’t work. In that case, you need to try out the complete screen repair and replacement.

For the permanent fix of your issue, i.e. the repair and replacement of your iPhone touchscreen, you should make an appointment at the nearest Apple-authorized Service Provider or Apple Retail Store.

Every technician working at these places are well-trained personnel. These people have received special training from Apple before working in the store or as an authorized service provider. These people can provide a permanent solution to your issue along with new genuine parts from Apple. The materials required for the repair and replacement of your iPhone touchscreen are provided to these locations by Apple.

However, you should know your Apple ID and its password before going to these locations for getting their service. You also need to store the data on your iPhone as a backup. You can make an appointment by contacting Apple. They will send a box to keep your iPhone, which you can send to the nearest Apple Repair Center. You may also use the Apple’s Express Replacement Service if you have an AppleCare+ coverage.

If you go to the Apple Repair Center, you may get your screen repaired on the same day. However, it might take up to 2 weeks for you to receive your repaired iPhone. This is just in case the technicians need to ship it for you.
